APA Format Guidelines and Tips

Title Page

In APA format 7 th edition, the title page includes the title of the paper, the name of the author, and the name of the institution and author note. For a student paper, it also includes the number of the course, instructor's name, and date of submission.


Right after the title page comes the abstract of the paper in APA format. This page also contains a page number on the top right corner of the header and a page header comprising the short title of the paper. The "Abstract" word comes in the center and in bold. Reference Page

At the end of your paper, you enlist all the sources that have been used in the paper. This section is included in every research paper to give credit to the sources that you have used in support of your claim in the paper. The heading of “reference” comes first on this page, bold and centralized. A reference includes all the necessary information about the source in a systematic way. For instance, first comes the second name of the author, then the first name's first letter followed by the year of publication in parenthesis. Then, you add the title of the article, journal, book, or electronic source and publisher name and then add URLs if any. The first line of the reference is left aligned but every second or third line must be indented.

In-text citation in APA format is done to refer to a quote or data used from any external source. The in-text citation is added at the end of the quote, used directly from the source. It contains the second name of the author, a comma, and the year in which the source was published, enclosed in parenthesis.
